Heat sealer
Also called: pouch sealer, sealing machine
A machine that closes sterilization pouches with a heated seal.
Some offices cut pouches from a roll and close them with a heat sealer instead of using self-seal pouches. The machine presses the open end shut with a heated bar. A good seal keeps instruments sterile in storage until the pouch is opened.
How to spot it
- A bench machine with a long, narrow slot or a lever arm and a roll of pouch material nearby.
What it is used for
- Seals pouches made from roll stock after instruments and an internal indicator are inside.
- Check each seal for gaps or wrinkles before the pouch goes into the sterilizer.
Safety and care
- The sealing bar is hot; keep fingers clear.
- Use pouch material made for your sterilizer type and follow the manufacturer's instructions for settings and care.
