Cabinets and sink
Also called: cabinetry, handwashing sink
Storage for supplies and a sink for handwashing.
Cabinets hold disposables and materials for the room. Clean supplies should be in closed or covered cabinets, never under the sink. The sink is for hand hygiene; contaminated instruments go to the sterilization area, not the operatory sink.
How to spot it
- Drawers along the wall or on a mobile cabinet, and a sink with hands-free or elbow-operated controls.
What it is used for
- Restock at the end of the day so you are not opening drawers with dirty gloves during care.
Safety and care
- Drawer handles and faucet handles are clinical contact surfaces.
