Accelerated (improved) hydrogen peroxide
Also called: AHP, improved hydrogen peroxide, peroxide wipes
A hydrogen peroxide disinfectant with added ingredients that make it work faster.
Accelerated hydrogen peroxide products mix a low level of hydrogen peroxide with other ingredients that speed up killing. CDC cites a study where a 0.5% product killed bacteria and viruses in 1 minute and TB germs and fungi in 5 minutes.
How to spot it
- Hydrogen peroxide listed as the active ingredient on a wipe or spray with an EPA registration number.
What it is used for
- Surface disinfection with the contact time on your product's label, which differs by brand and germ.
Safety and care
- Can irritate eyes and skin; wear gloves and eye protection.
- Do not use these as line cleaners where the amalgam separator rule bans peroxide-based cleaners outside pH 6 to 8.
