Distilled water for the autoclave
Also called: demineralized water, steam distilled water
The only water most autoclaves should get in their reservoir.
Steam autoclaves make steam from the water in their reservoir. Manufacturers call for distilled or mineral-free water, because tap water leaves mineral scale inside the sterilizer.
How to spot it
- Jugs labeled distilled water, kept near the sterilizer.
What it is used for
- Check the level before the first cycle and refill or replace the water on the schedule in your sterilizer's manual.
Safety and care
- Never add tap water, chemicals or cleaners to the reservoir unless the manual says to.
