Gypsum (plaster and dental stone)
Also called: plaster, stone, die stone, model stone
Powders mixed with water and poured into impressions to make models.
Gypsum products range from soft model plaster (Type II) for study models, to dental stone (Type III) for working casts, to very strong die stones (Types IV and V). Each has its own water-to-powder ratio, and adding extra water makes a weaker model.
How to spot it
- Bags or bins of white, yellow, blue or pink powder, a rubber bowl, a spatula, a scale and a vibrator.
What it is used for
- Weigh powder and measure water, mix, and pour into the disinfected impression on the vibrator.
Safety and care
