Also called: exchange zone
Where instruments are passed: about 4 to 7 o'clock (right-handed operator).
The transfer zone, about 4 to 7 o'clock for a right-handed operator, is the space where the assistant and operator pass instruments and materials. Passing here keeps instruments out of the patient's face.
What it is used for
- Pass and receive instruments in this zone, low and in front of the patient's chin area.
Safety and care
- Never pass instruments over the patient's face or eyes.
