Putting on PPE (donning order)

Also called: donning, gowning up

Gown, then mask, then eye protection, then gloves.

CDC's sequence for putting on PPE is: 1) gown, 2) mask or respirator, 3) goggles or face shield, 4) gloves. Gloves go on last so they cover the gown cuffs and stay as clean as possible. Clean your hands before you start.

What you do

  1. Fit the mask's metal band to your nose and make sure it covers your chin.
  2. Pull glove cuffs over the gown's wrists.

Safety and care

  1. Keep gloved hands away from your face; change gloves if they tear.
