Cement spatula

Also called: mixing spatula, spatula

A flat flexible blade for mixing cements, liners and some materials on a pad.

A cement spatula has a flat, flexible metal or plastic blade. It mixes cements, liners, bases and some impression pastes on a paper mixing pad or a glass slab. Some cements need a plastic spatula; follow the product's directions.

How to spot it

  • A thin flat blade with rounded end; may be double-ended with two sizes.

What it is used for

  • Mixing materials for crowns, temporary crowns, liners and bases.

Safety and care

  • It stays outside the mouth, but it handles material that goes in: clean it and heat-sterilize it (or follow the maker's instructions) after every patient.
  • Wipe material off right away before it sets.
