Finishing burs and polishing points

Also called: 12-fluted bur, 30-fluted bur, finishing diamond, rubber polisher

Burs with many fine blades, or rubber points, for smoothing fillings after placement.

Finishing burs have many fine blades (often 12 or 30) so they smooth instead of cut. They shape and smooth composite and other fillings. Rubber points, cups and discs then polish to a shine.

How to spot it

  • Many closely spaced straight blades; finer than a cutting carbide.
  • Polishing points are soft rubber in cone, cup or wheel shapes.

What it is used for

Safety and care

  • Clean and sterilize, or discard if single-use.
