Model trimmer
Also called: cast trimmer, plaster trimmer
A bench machine with a spinning wet wheel that shapes the bases of stone models.
After an impression is poured in plaster or stone, the model trimmer grinds the base into a neat shape. Most use water to cool the wheel and keep dust down. See the machines section for upkeep.
How to spot it
- A bench-top machine with a round abrasive wheel behind a shield and a small table.
What it is used for
- Trimming study models and working casts.
Safety and care
- Wear safety glasses; keep fingers clear of the wheel.
- Disinfect impressions before pouring them.
