PPE in the sterilization area
Utility gloves, mask, eye protection and a gown for anything dirty.
Cleaning instruments splashes and involves sharp tips, so CDC calls for puncture-resistant utility gloves, a mask, protective eyewear or a face shield, and a gown or jacket. Take off the dirty PPE and clean your hands before moving to clean tasks like opening sterile packs.
What you do
- Keep a set of utility gloves at the dirty sink; clean and dry them after use and replace them when cracked or torn.
