Discoid-cleoid carver

Also called: discoid/cleoid, carver

A carver with a disc on one end and a claw-like point on the other.

The discoid-cleoid is double-ended. The discoid end is a flat round disc; the cleoid end is a pointed, claw-like blade. Together they carve the grooves and shape the chewing (occlusal) surface of a new amalgam filling.

How to spot it

  • One end a thin flat disc; the other a pointed, leaf-shaped blade.

What it is used for

Safety and care

  • Semicritical item (it touches the inside of the mouth): clean it, package it and heat-sterilize it after every patient.
