Root-tip elevators (Apexo-type, angled pair)
Also called: root tip pick, Apexo elevator, angled root elevator
Slim angled elevators with fine tips for lifting small root pieces out of a socket.
Root-tip elevators have long, slim, sharp-edged blades. Angled versions come in mirror-image pairs and are pushed between the socket wall and a broken root tip to loosen it.
How to spot it
- Slim, pointed, angled working ends; usually a mirror-image pair.
- Thinner and finer than Cryer elevators.
What it is used for
- Removing small fractured root tips.
Safety and care
- Critical item (it goes into soft tissue or touches bone): clean it, package it and heat-sterilize it after every patient.
- Sharp working end: carry it point-down in a closed cassette, and never reach blindly into a pile of instruments.
