Round bur
Also called: #1/4 to #8 round, ball bur
A ball-shaped bur used to open teeth and remove decay.
A round bur has a ball-shaped head. It is used to start a preparation (the opening in the tooth), to remove decay and to make retention spots. Sizes run from very small to large.
How to spot it
- A small ball on the end of the shank, like a pinhead.
What it is used for
- Opening into a tooth, removing caries (decay), endodontic access.
Safety and care
- Clean and sterilize, or discard if single-use.
