Triple tray (dual-arch tray)

Also called: dual-arch tray, check-bite tray, closed-mouth tray

A plastic tray that captures the prepared tooth, the opposite teeth and the bite in one step.

A triple tray is a small plastic frame with thin mesh in the middle. The patient bites into it, so one impression captures the prepared tooth, the opposing teeth and how they fit together. It is popular for single crowns.

How to spot it

  • A small plastic tray covering one side of the mouth, with a thin fabric or mesh across the middle and no floor.

What it is used for

  • Single-crown impressions with VPS (vinyl polysiloxane) material.

Safety and care

  • Single-use (disposable) item: use it on one patient, then throw it away. Never clean and reuse it.
